About us

The Injury Minimization Programme for Schools (I.M.P.S.) provides an essential service for the children of Oxfordshire by teaching them how to take safer risks and prevent injury. We aim to reduce hospital admissions caused by preventable injuries.

The children also learn first aid, how to put someone in the recovery position, use a defibrillator and resuscitate someone in an emergency situation. The primary school children attend a morning course at one of the local hospitals in the area and are taught by specially trained members of the I.M.P.S. team at Abingdon Community  The John Radcliffe or Townlands Community Hospitals.

I.M.P.S. teaches 82% of all the primary school children in  Oxfordshire - that's 5,250 ten & eleven year olds from 220 schools every year. As an added bonus to the school, we also teach these skills to over 600 teachers and helpers who attend the course with the children.

We need your help so we can continue to offer I.M.P.S. to local children. Many of our ex I.M.P.S. children are now parents themselves and many have prevented serious injury and saved lives using skills they learnt with I.M.P.S.
